Our Story & Mission

No family should have to find their way alone.

Free information. Shared experience. A clearer path to support.

Why we started

The Archie George List grew out of our own experience as a family trying to find the help our children needed. We knew we needed support, but finding it often felt like going round in an endless circle: grants, equipment, assessments and services, each with different rules, different contacts and another place to start again.

There were times when we simply did not know what to do next or who to speak to. Caring for our children was already demanding; having to search, explain our circumstances again and again, and work out which help we could access added another weight. We felt overwhelmed, unsure and, at times, very alone.

We do not want other families to feel that they have to work everything out by themselves. That is why we began bringing this information together in one place.

Our mission

Our mission is to make it easier for disabled people and their families to find the information, funding and practical support they need, when they need it.

No gatekeeping. Just free, accessible information that helps families understand their options, ask the right questions and take the next step with more confidence.

What matters to us

We believe families deserve to be listened to, treated with dignity and given clear information. Nobody should need the right connections, specialist knowledge or money to begin understanding what help may be available.

We share what we find openly. We explain eligibility and geographical restrictions, link people to the organisations providing support, and make gaps or uncertainties visible. We cannot promise that every application will succeed, but we can help make the search less confusing and less lonely.

Where we hope to go

We hope to register our foundation as a charity and are seeking funding and practical support to help us build towards that goal. We are not currently a registered charity.

In time, we would love to offer face-to-face support and Zoom conversations: a space where families can ask questions, understand their options and get help navigating the information in front of them. These are future ambitions, rather than services currently available.

We also hope to share our experience with professionals and the wider community, helping people understand how disability affects the whole family. That includes the exhaustion of searching for help, the pressure of repeated assessments and scrutiny, and the difference that respectful, informed support can make.

One day at a time

We are starting with what we can offer now: information, honesty and a determination to make things easier for the next family. We will grow carefully, one day at a time, keeping families’ needs at the centre of what we do.

If this list helps someone feel less alone, find a useful contact or take one step towards the support they need, then it is already making a difference.
