Legal & safeguarding
Archie George Foundation provides free information and practical signposting for disabled people, families, carers and siblings. This page explains the legal frameworks relevant to our work and our commitments as the service develops.
Last reviewed 13 October 2026. Naming a law is not a compliance certificate. Duties depend on the service, circumstances and UK nation; the safeguarding and SEND frameworks below focus on England.
Privacy and data protection
We aim to handle personal information lawfully, fairly and transparently under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and Data Protection Act 2018, as amended by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025. The latter changes these laws rather than replacing them. ICO: the legislation and current guidance.
Our Privacy, referrals and safeguarding notice explains the information used, lawful bases, sensitive health and ethnicity information, authorised inbox access, retention periods, sharing and individual rights. Voluntary sensitive casework requires the appropriate explicit consent; safeguarding disclosures may have a separate lawful basis. Please send only relevant information and read the notice before making a referral.
Data-protection questions or concerns can be sent to referrals@archie-georgefoundation.co.uk. You can also raise a concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office. The policy describes our handling commitments; it does not itself configure mailbox security or automatic deletion.
Safeguarding children and adults
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We take concerns about abuse, neglect, exploitation and harm seriously and will share relevant information with appropriate children’s services, adult safeguarding services or police where necessary and lawful. Confidentiality is not absolute: information may be shared without consent where an appropriate legal basis permits this to protect someone. Sharing should be necessary, proportionate and recorded, with the person informed where appropriate and safe.
In England, the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004 and current Working Together to Safeguard Children guidance provide the child-safeguarding framework. Their specific duties differ between organisations; the Foundation does not replace statutory children’s services or conduct their investigations. Current government guidance and statutory framework.
The Care Act 2014 and its statutory guidance provide England’s adult-safeguarding framework, including council responsibilities towards adults with care and support needs who meet the relevant safeguarding conditions. We signpost and raise concerns with the appropriate services. Care Act guidance, including safeguarding.
Our developing volunteer arrangements include role-appropriate training, confidentiality and recruitment checks. Enhanced DBS checks are required before eligible roles, with barred-list checks where the role legally qualifies. Check level depends on duties: an enhanced check cannot lawfully be requested for every type of role. Charity Commission safeguarding guidance.
Immediate danger: call 999. Our inbox is not an emergency service or continuously monitored. Use Urgent Help for local emergency and safeguarding routes.
Equality, disability inclusion and accessibility
The principal disability-discrimination framework in Great Britain is the Equality Act 2010. We are committed to respectful, inclusive support and considering reasonable adjustments to remove barriers to our services. Tell us about communication, sensory, mobility or other access needs when contacting us. Government guide for service providers.
Our Accessibility page describes display settings, reading and language options, keyboard use and known limits. The website has not had an independent accessibility audit or formal certification. Automatic translation can make mistakes and does not replace a qualified interpreter when one is needed.
The directory’s England SEND information refers to the Children and Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice. These describe responsibilities of education, health and local-authority services; listing them does not make the Foundation a statutory assessment service. Official SEND Code of Practice · Education and SEND support.
Using the website and getting advice
The directory offers possible routes to help, not a promise of eligibility, funding, admission or a successful application. Providers decide their own criteria and availability. Check the linked official service before applying, paying or relying on a deadline. Listing an organisation does not mean it endorses the Foundation.
Information and form-filling support do not replace individual medical, legal, financial or safeguarding advice. Where specialist advice or representation is needed, use an appropriately qualified professional. We do not make benefit, grant, EHCP or social-care decisions.
Archie George Foundation is being developed and is not currently a registered charity. Fundraising stages and donation methods remain coming soon. Future service developments will be described as available only when they are ready.

Corrections, access concerns and complaints
If information appears inaccurate, a link fails, or you have a concern about the Foundation’s service, accessibility, privacy or safeguarding, email referrals@archie-georgefoundation.co.uk. Include the page or service concerned and the help you need; avoid sending unnecessary sensitive details. Ask for an accessible response format if needed.
For problems with another organisation’s service, use that provider’s complaints process and any relevant regulator or advice service. Reporting a problem here does not pause an application, appeal, payment or court deadline.
